Vision
From January M. Mierzejewski
"There is no idea more powerful than one that has arrived!"
These were the words spoken by chiropractor John Brimhall at one of the last assemblies I would attend as a chiropractic student. It was not the context with which they were used that caught my attention, so much as the limitless implications that could be extrapolated from that simple phrase. So many students view their last trimester in chiropractic school as their education coming to a close. While it is true that their formal education is soon to be completed, I believe as they begin preparing for that day and anticipating their "arrival" as a licensed doctor and healer, that the enormity of what they have yet to learn rapidly unfolds. "Living should be a continuous letting go of education of the past to discover great depths in innate's future," (B.J. Palmer).
Lesson 1: Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone
The promise of a new adventure, the thrill of finally being "the doctor," is intoxicating at best, and humbling at the very least. Gone will be the days of living and working within the protected environment of our schools. Scattered around the globe will be your new colleagues, the "family" you saw more than you did your blood relatives for the past few years. Commencement is as much a time for reflection on your accomplishments, as it is for the development of new goals and actions that will carry you forth in your endeavor to be a successful chiropractor.
Lesson 2: Creating Your Ideal Practice
the Nuts and Bolts of Ensuring Your Success
Opening your doors and practicing the great healing art of chiropractic is more than determining the perfect location, hiring and training staff, and hanging your shingle. The difference between the successful young doctor and the struggling new graduate is certainty, certainty in the development and implementation of ones practice and life purpose. Certainty defined simply, is the absence of doubt. "To heal (to remove "quality nerve interference"), you must remove doubt and instill faith in both doctor and patient," (James W. Parker). Clarity of purpose and certainty in ones ability to help others to heal themselves is a necessity in chiropractic. Developing certainty is essential to creating optimum balance in ones actions, thus enabling a successful execution of purpose and vision.
Lesson 3: The Power of Intent
It is imperative to maintain a focused intent in all aspects of your life, personal and professional, mental and spiritual, for the intentions of a single individual are powerful enough to change the vibration of any living being one comes in contact with. Simply stated, "Your success, health and happiness are determined by what you think, the way you act, and what you feel," (James W. Parker). A focused intent may allow both doctor and patient to vibrate at the same frequency, thus increasing the ability of your patient's body to accept the adjustment, thereby restoring function and moving them from a state of impaired existence to one of optimal function and health.
If every chiropractor retained certainty in the science, philosophy and art of chiropractic, in the role of intent in their ability to assist others in the healing process, the possibility for unification and worldwide awareness of chiropractic as the leading form of healthcare in the wellness revolution, without doubt, would be recognized. It would be possible to practice chiropractic in its purity, with "Faith, Confidence, and Belief, in our Products, Services, and Ideas," (James W. Parker).
