Dr Craig Gilberd is an amazing individual who knows what it is like to live an "ideal life".
Craig, a New Zealander, decided on Chiropractic as a career at the age of 15 years, after a miracle adjustment from Dr Wally Robb, in 1969, in his home town of Auckland. His recovery from this severe case of mono-nucleosis within 24 hours, set Craig on an unwavering commitment to Chiropractic. This was further enhanced by Dr Reggi Gold's visit to Auckland in 1972; Craig now had his first Chiropractic mentor.
Craig began his career at Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1973 at the tender age of 19. The new kid at school was nicknamed the "Pup", to which he is still fondly referred by his old mates from Palmer. Graduating with honours in 1976, he as too young to open a practice in New Zealand, by New Zealand law, so he moved to Australia to practice. He first practiced as an associate in the Riverland of South Australia, with Dr Dean Lines. After 3 years he took over the practice in total, and employed associates to help run the main clinic, plus 4 other practices in the surrounding region.
Forever searching for new highs, adrenalin sports dominated his free time; hang gliding, winning State and National titles, barefoot ski-ing, boat racing and motocross, were his passions. Craig's belief in Chiropractic was so strong that he went 110% in all his sporting pursuits knowing that the miracles of Chiropractic would always be there should he need them.
In 1986 he sold his practices, his houseboat, and his Ferrari, retired from practice at the age of 32, and spent the next 10 years circumnavigating the globe, exploring 67 countries, and sharing amazing adventures with over 170 different crew members, from all over the world. His beautiful yacht "Ruthean," a 54 foot classic racing yawl was the magic carpet that took him to the far reaches of planet. From living with the Kuna Indians in Central America, experiencing the diverse cultures of Africa, and exploring the depths of the Amazon, to crossing the 3 major oceans around the world, all contributing to Craig's 'ideal life'. During this time he adjusted people from all walks of life in many exotic and remote places. He also did locums in South Africa, the Caribbean and Australia. On returning to Australia in 1996 it was very difficult to return to "normal life" so he fitted out a beautiful new yacht "Sidewinder", and spent a few more years cruising the Pacific. But Chiropractic was calling again.
In 2001 Craig settled on Australia's Great Barrier Reef and began a new practice
within Gray's Chiropractic Centre. In December 2002 he decided to once again leave active practice and spend his time managing his 3 practices that are run by associates,
whom he mentors, coaches and consults. He spends his spare time sailing to his own piece of paradise, on Keswick Island of the Great Barrier Reef, just 2 hours sail from his base in Mackay. He plans to build a home there this year to create the second phase of his ideal life plan.
In 2002 Craig became a certified Life Coach.
With a combination of his Chiropractic experience, travelling experience and
now Life Coaching experience he joined Powerful Practices at the start of 2003 as a consultant, coach, and mentor, working with clients around the world. He combines his coaching work with
the management of his associate practices.
Craig's number one value is FREEDOM, and his purpose in life is to help others realize the freedom that exists when we live our passions and dreams, whether it be practice dreams and/or life dreams.
Craig is passionate about Chiropractic excellence, and life. He is a master at designing an ideal life, and is fortunate enough to do it via the best health profession on this planet.
